The KBC are James Mulholland (vocals/keys/guitar), Richard Ormerod (Bass) & Michael Brown (Drums). This trio from Preston merge their love of funk and soul records with electronic dance beats to create super-charged indie music.

They release the single ‘Not Anymore’ through High Voltage Sounds on 27th June, preceded by a download-only release of ‘Sherlock Groove Holmes’ by Playlouder Recordings on 29th May.

The singles Trippin’ and Pride Before The Fall / Poisonous Emblem have gained support from Zane Lowe and Steve Lamacq, as well as being playlisted on XFM and leading to a BBC 6Music session for Marc Riley. They’ve completed dates with The Paddingtons, The Strokes, iForward, Russia! and The Sunshine Underground, as well as running their own boozy night Club Sandwich in their home town of Preston which sells out every month.

With danceable bass grooves and pulsating drum beats coupled with killer choruses, The KBC are consistently compared to Madchester alumni such as New Order although, still short of their 20 th birthdays, they were still at nursery school during the Hacienda’s heyday. Now, alongside fellow Mancunians The Whip and Performance, The KBC are less concerned with emulating the past than with spearheading a new era of great North-Western dance music. “I’ve always thought of us as a dance band, but with guitars,” says Mulholland, “it’s perfect dancefloor music”.
