Release: Oklahoma / The Hold Up The Answering Machine are Martin (vocals/guitar), Patrick (guitar/vocals) and Gemma (bass). Forming in Manchester during the winter of 2005/06 the trio huddled up in front of cheap heaters and started writing their first songs. Aided by a drum machine (aptly named Mustafa Beat), the band worked on songs influenced by their heroes The Strokes, The Radio Dept, The Brilliant Corners and Shout Out Louds. The result is a unique style of imaginative, melodic, poetic and joyous pop music. They release their debut single Oklahoma/The Hold Up through High Voltage Sounds on October 16 th 2006. In their short time together The Answering Machine have supported Good Shoes, Captain and Morning Runner to much acclaim. Captain have taken the band under their wing, allowing them further support slots and described the band in the NME as ‘absolutely amazing’. A recent NME radar review commended them for their “time-less pop sensibility”. The guitars are sparkling and fresh, the bass lines bounce around with slick melodic phrases, and Martin's voice is nothing short of raw, passionate and heartbreaking. The Answering Machine play the following venues this autumn: September 20th, Bar XS, Manchester October 12th, Single launch at The Roadhouse, Manchester For more information on this release please contact the relevant person;
